West Cornwall has a packed calendar of events in 2026, many of them within a short drive of Helston, Penzance, Porthleven and Tresowes Green Cottage. From harbour-side food festivals to ancient spring and midsummer celebrations, there is something in almost every season to help guests plan their stay.

Spring 2026 Highlights (April–May)

Porthleven Food Festival

• Dates: Friday 24 – Sunday 26 April 2026
• Location: Porthleven Harbour (approx. 10–15 minutes from Praa Sands / Tresowes Green)
• Type of event: Three-day harbour-side food, drink and music festival

The Porthleven Food Festival is one of Cornwall’s biggest and best-loved food festivals, transforming the harbour with street food, chef demonstrations, live music and family entertainment over three days. The event is free by day, with a mix of local producers, national chefs and evening ticketed music sessions around the harbour.

Rattler Fest

• Dates: Friday 24 – Saturday 25 April 2026
• Location: Healeys Cyder Farm, near Truro (around 45–60 minutes from Helston area)
• Type of event: Adult-only cider and music festival

Rattler Fest at Healeys Cyder Farm offers a high-energy weekend celebrating Rattler cider with live music, DJs and festival entertainment. It is aimed at adults and makes a lively day or evening out from West Cornwall for guests looking for a bigger festival atmosphere.

Helston Flora Day

• Date: Friday 8 May 2026
• Location: Helston town centre
• Type of event: Traditional Cornish spring festival with processional dances and pageantry

Helston’s Flora Day is one of Cornwall’s oldest and most famous festivals, celebrating the arrival of spring with processional dances through the town, floral decorations and the Hal-an-Tow pageant. The day begins at 7am with the Morning Dance and includes the children’s dance and the formal Midday Furry Dance, with streets, homes and shops decorated with greenery and flowers.

Padstow Obby Oss (for day trips)

• Date: Friday 1 May 2026
• Location: Padstow, North Cornwall
• Type of event: Historic May Day celebration and street procession

Padstow’s Obby Oss Day is one of Cornwall’s most distinctive May Day festivals, featuring costumed processions, music and the famous “Oss” parading through the narrow streets. It is further from Helston than other events listed here but makes a memorable day trip for guests keen on traditional Cornish customs.

St Ives Food & Drink Festival

• Dates: Friday 15 – Sunday 17 May 2026
• Location: Porthminster Beach, St Ives
• Type of event: Beach-front food and drink festival with chef demos and live music

The St Ives Food & Drink Festival brings chef demonstrations, artisan food stalls and live music to Porthminster Beach over three days in mid-May. Daytime entry is free, with ticketed “Sunset Sessions” featuring bands and DJs in the evenings for an extra festival feel right on the sand.

Early Summer 2026 (June)

Royal Cornwall Show

• Dates: Thursday 4 – Saturday 6 June 2026
• Location: Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge
• Type of event: County agricultural show with food, shopping and entertainment

The Royal Cornwall Show is the county’s largest annual event, combining livestock competitions, local food and drink, shopping avenues and arena entertainment over three days. Although held near Wadebridge in North Cornwall, it is a popular day trip for visitors from across the county.

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival

• Dates: Friday 12 – Sunday 14 June 2026
• Location: Various venues around Falmouth harbour
• Type of event: Free live music festival celebrating sea shanties and maritime song

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival brings over 80 shanty groups and thousands of visitors to the town, with performances at pubs, quaysides and open-air stages around the harbour. Most performances are free, with a special ticketed gala concert at the Princess Pavilion and a lively maritime atmosphere throughout Falmouth.

Golowan Festival and Mazey Day (Penzance)

• Key day: Mazey Day on Saturday 27 June 2026
• Location: Penzance town centre and harbour
• Type of event: Ten-day midsummer festival with parades, markets, music and fireworks

Golowan is Penzance’s revived midsummer festival, rooted in the Feast of St John and St John’s Eve traditions, featuring ten days of arts, performances, parades and community events. The biggest day for visitors is Mazey Day, when streets are closed to traffic for processions with giant sculptures, banners, markets, music and a carnival atmosphere across the town centre. Quay Fair Day on the Sunday focuses on Penzance’s harbour heritage, with stalls, decorated boats, street entertainers and music around the waterfront.

Late Summer and Autumn 2026

Falmouth Oyster Festival

St Ives September Festival

Winter 2026

Montol Festival (Penzance midwinter celebration)

• Date: Monday 21 December 2026
• Location: Penzance town centre
• Type of event: Traditional midwinter and solstice festival with lantern processions and guise dancing

The Montol Festival is Penzance’s midwinter solstice celebration, reviving historic Cornish Nadelik and guise-dancing traditions with lantern parades, street performances and the lighting of the “Mock” (yule log) in the town centre. Montol is held every year on 21 December, whatever the day or weather, making it a distinctive way to experience Cornish culture in the darkest days of winter.
